Shooting dominates Mid-western Sports Award

NEPALGUNJ, Jan 17: Shooting players and coach won awards in four of the eight categories at the Mid-western Sports Award 2068 organized by the Nepal Sports Journalists Forum (NSJF) Banke coordination branch in Nepalgunj on Thursday.



Shooters Badruddin Ansari and Krishna Thapa were adjudged the players of the year in the male and female categories respectively.[break]



Likewise, shooting coach Parvati Thapa was declared the coach of the year. Thapa is also the first Nepali woman Olympian.



Another Olympian shooter Anita Shrestha, who claimed gold medal in the South Asian Games in 1992, was felicitated with a special award.



Long-distance runner Bishwarupa Budha received the player of the year award in the youth category while volunteer wushu coach Bijay Soni bagged the motivation award.



NSJF, Banke felicitated Dr Fajal Abbas Rijvi with the lifetime achievement award for introducing sports like hockey and cricket in the region. He is a former captain of volleyball and football teams of Banke district.



Meanwhile, badminton player Dipesh Dhami from Kanchanpur received the Far-western Special Mention Award.
