KATHMANDU, March 11: Dr Gopal Shiwakoti ‘Chintan’, who has faced fraud charges of Rs 33.5 million in various cases including much-awaited Melamchi project, denied providing his statement at the court today.

Police produced Chintan along with another accused Badri Thapa at the court this afternoon.

Thapa gave his statement at the Kathmandu District Court today itself but Chintan denied to do so citing health reasons despite repeated requests by Justice Suryanath Adhikari.

“I am not feeling well. I cannot speak today,” Chintan said. “You can sit down and record your statement comfortably,” Adhikari requested him, convincing, “If you provide statement today, we will start initial hearing tomorrow.”

Reacting to Chintan’s denial, Justices including senior advocate Krishna Prasad Bhandari said, “Chintan knows how to act. It would not be surprising even if he submitted a doctor’s prescription as evidence that he is taking antibiotics for depression.”
