Shankharapur school bus accident: Death toll rises to 3, 40 injured

According to the police, the bus (Ba 2 Kha 7958) en route from Nagarkot met with an accident at around 4:50 pm on Saturday.

KATHMANDU, Feb 12: A bus carrying students met with an accident on Sankhu-Nagarkot road section of Shankharapur Municipality-5 in Kathmandu.


According to the police, the bus (Ba 2 Kha 7958) en route from Nagarkot met with an accident at around 4:50 pm on Saturday. The bus was carrying students returning froma picnic.


The bus was carrying students of SS Academy in Chabahil towards Sankhu. Spokesperson for District Police Range (DPR), Kathmandu, Superintendent of Police (SP) Apil Raj Bohara told Republica that so far, three people have been killed and 40 others injured in the accident. Most of the injured were school children.

According to him, the injured have been rescued and sent to different hospitals. Twenty-two people have been admitted to People's Life Care Hospital, 11 to NMC Hospital, four to Teaching Hospital and four to Shankharapur Hospital. 


Shusank Dotel, who was undergoing treatment at Shankharapur Hospital, died while one person each died at NMC Hospital and Teaching Hospital. Their identities are yet to be ascertained. With this, the death toll has reached three.


A 10-member team led by Police Inspector Nabin Chudal rushed to the spot to rescue the victims. According to preliminary investigation, the bus met with the accident due to brake failure and the accident took place.


Further investigation into the incident is underway, police said.
