KATHMANDU, June 13: Shankar Oxygen Gas Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of Shankar Gas, is installing a liquid oxygen gas production plant, probably the first of its type in the country, in Rohini Rural Municipality-4 of Rupandehi district.
According to the company, in its full capacity, the new production plant will be producing 60 tons of liquid oxygen and one ton of nitrogen gas daily. Prime Minister KP Oli virtually laid the foundation stone of the new gas plant on Sunday.
Medical oxygen production begins at Arghakhanchi Hospital
Shankar Gas initiated its first production of oxygen gas in Nawalparasi district in 2000, with a capacity to produce 100 cubic meters per hour. Since 2004, the company has been supplying 430 cubic meters of oxygen gas from its production unit in the Balaju Industrial Estate. Later on in 2014, the company added another plant with a capacity of 250 cubic meters of the life saving gas in Rohini Rural Municipality, Rupandehi.
The company has sought to invest in a liquid oxygen plant citing the acute shortage of oxygen gas mainly in the second wave of the COVID-19. It is investing Rs 1 billion in its new project and is expected to bring the product to the domestic market by the next year.
