ITAHARI, Sept 25: Authorities on Wednesday arrested 17 individuals, including a fake doctor, from the Itahari-based Driving License Office under the Office of Transport Management on the charge of causing distress to service seekers.

According to a statement issued by Bed Raj Phuyal, Assistant Chief District Officer of Sunsari, they arrested the accused following complaints that service seekers were being harassed and irregularities were occurring at the Office of Transport Management in Itahari. A team led by Assistant CDO Phuyal conducted an on-site inspection after receiving complaints frequently.

Those arrested include a fake doctor, intermediaries, and individuals involved in accounting practices. DSP Tek Bahadur Karki of the Area Police Office, Itahari, stated that the identities of all the arrested individuals are currently being verified. Once the identification process is complete, preliminary investigations will be conducted, and charges will be filed against those found guilty, said DSP Karki.

Itahari has regional-level transport management and driving license offices for Koshi Province. Intermediary groups have reportedly been defrauding service seekers through various means at these offices.
