UDAYPUR, April 13: Police have arrested seven persons including former lawmaker Kiran Rai aka Nisan for their alleged involvement in various bomb blasts in the district.

Rai was the eastern bureau in-charge of Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal (CPN), a party which has been accused of carrying out anti-poll activities across the country. Four persons including Nepali Congress candidate from Udaypur-2, Narayan Karki were severely injured in an explosion in Udaypur during the parliamentary poll last year. NC youth leader Meera Katuwal who's leg was blown off in the explosion is yet to recover even six months after the incident.

Elected to the Constituent Assembly from Sunsari district in 2008 from the CPN (Maoist Center), Rai joined the Chand-led breakaway faction of the party after the dissolution of the CA.

The district administration has suspected Chand-led Maoist party's involvement also in a bomb blast at a stadium in the district headquarters two days ago. But the party has denied its involvement in the incident.

Asked about the arrested CPN leaders, Chief District Officer Bishnu Karki declined to disclose their names and other details. However, he said that seven individuals were brought to Udaypur from Dhankuta recently.

The government has recently issued an arrest warrant against the chief of the semi-underground party, Chand, following complaints of his party's involvement in violent incidents across the country.
