Settlements of squatters in Bhaktapur inundated due to heavy rainfall

BHAKTAPUR, Sept 7: Some 500 tents erected in Manhara squatter settlement of Madhyapur Thimi Municipality-1 have been inundated due to incessant rainfall on Sunday night. 

According to the Metropolitan Police Range Office, Bhaktapur, pet animals including pigs and ducks from the tents have been relocated to safer places. Police informed that the land of Shiva Bahadur Thapa  in Madhyapur Thimi Municipality-2, Sanothimi and Dibyashwori Planning has been submerged. Similarly, various goods have been destroyed in the new settlement of Bode Nilbarahi.

The heavy rainfall has also damaged various places in the district. The house of Bikram Tamang, a resident of Changunarayan Municipality-6, is at risk due to a landslide triggered by the incessant rainfall. According to the Metropolitan Police Range Office, Bhaktapur, a rescue operation is still underway to help them relocate to safer places.

Similarly, Raju Pariyar’s house in Tathali Chautara Pujari Tol Municipality-9 has fallen at risk as a landslide has struck at the backyard of the house. According to the police, the pig farm run by Basanta Rai in Ward No. 4 and Changu Indreni Bridge was washed away by the Manahara River. The flood has damaged the house of Nima Moktan Lama as well.

A landslide has blocked the road leading to Suryabinayak Municipality-10 Chitapol Nala. However, no human casualties have been reported so far from these incidents of flood and inundation.
