KATHMANDU, Dec 9: Senior Vice Chairman of the CPN (Maoist Center), Narayan Kaji Shrestha, has accused the government of arbitrarily detaining the Chairman of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).
Shrestha, a former Home Minister, stated that the government's treatment of RSP Chairman Rabi Lamichhane, who faces cooperatives’ fund embezzlement allegations, without any investigation or inquiry, has strengthened the public's suspicion that the government is acting out of revenge.

During his visit to China, Shrestha wrote on his Facebook account, "I am deeply saddened to hear that Chairman Lamichhane has faced humiliating, vengeful mistreatment while being taken from Chitwan to Pokhara. If this is true, I strongly oppose and condemn it. I demand that the government immediately stop such illegal, anti-human rights, humiliating, and revengeful behavior."
He also alleged that the government discriminated by protecting leaders from the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML without conducting investigations. He also insisted that the government should investigate corruption against all those accused including against Lamichhane.
He further wrote, "Anyone who is found guilty through a fair investigation must be punished. We have consistently upheld this policy including in the case of RSP Chairman and former Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane. However, the government is blatantly discriminating by protecting leaders from the NC and UML without conducting any investigations or inquiries into their actions. Our party has strongly opposed this."
