SINDHULI, Jan 2: Kamalamai Municipality has distributed Rs 700,000 provided by a seed supplier firm to farmers after the so-called ‘high-quality’ rice seed failed to yield rice as advertised. The rice seed was provided to the farmers through the municipality.

The municipality had provided the seeds at a discount of 50 percent.

Earlier, the farmers had taken the municipality officials and the seed supplier Kripa Agro traders to their fields and showed that their crops had failed. Following the inspection, the supplier firm agreed to compensate the victim farmers.

After the inspection, the municipality and the seeds supplier decided to distribute a total of Rs 707,099 to the victim farmers. According to the Deputy Mayor of the municipality Manju Devkota, 34 farmers were compensated for the loss caused to their crop.

During the inspection, it was found that 22.5 percent crop was lost due to poor quality seed.

Kamalamai Municipality had bought 9 metric tons of rice seed from Kripa Agro Traders to provide them to the farmers at 50 percent discount. Owner of Kripa Agro Traders, Subodh Adhikari, informed that Anmol Seed Private Limited paid the compensation since it had supplied the defective seed.
