KATHMANDU, Feb 22: As the schools themselves have been conducting the final examination of Grade 10 i.e. Secondary Education Examination (SEE) for the last two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the government has decided to hand over the responsibility of operation and management of SEE examinations to the provincial governments.
Dr Mahashram Sharma, chairperson of the National Examination Board, had submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology to hand over the responsibility of conducting and managing the SEE examination of 2022 to the provincial governments as per the spirit of the constitution. The same proposal was taken to the Council of Ministers by Minister of Education, Devendra Poudel.

After the cabinet meeting held on 7 February approved the proposal, the provincial governments have been given the responsibility of organizing and managing the SEE examinations to be conducted from April 22 to May 3, according to Chairperson Sharma.
According to Chairman Sharma, as per the decision of the Council of Ministers, the Board has made an arrangement to give the entire responsibility of conducting and managing the SEE examinations to the provincial governments by making the first amendment to the National Examinations Board Regulation 2076 BS. Now, seven SEE examination operation and management committees will be formed - one each in all the seven provinces - and they will conduct and manage the examination in their provinces.
Similarly, such committees in each province will comprise five members including National Examination Board’s Provincial Examination Board Chief and the Director of the Provincial Education Directorate. According to Chairperson Sharma, the committee will conduct all the preparations of the examination like the board has been doing so far.
“The board only prepares and publishes the results based on the results sent to the board by the provincial examination operation and management committees,” Sharma said. “The SEE examination, which will be conducted from April 22 to May 3, will be conducted and managed according to the new system. The board will not publish the results of all provinces at once like before.”
