KATHMANDU, Feb 8: Federation of Women’s Entrepreneurs Association of Nepal (FWEAN) is organizing 2nd International Women’s Trade Expo in Kathmandu from February 14 to 18.

According to the federation, the five-day expo will showcase different items produced by women entrepreneurs. The main objective of the expo is to develop trade relationship between women entrepreneurs, importers and exporters. 

FWEAN President Bhawani Rana said that women entrepreneurs from India, China, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Pakistan and the Philippines, amongst others, will participate in the expo. “Women entrepreneurs from all 75 districts as well as exporters will also participate in expo which will help to promote local products in the international market,” she added.

Rita Singh, 2nd vice-president of the federation, said that Trade and Export Promotion Centre (TEPC) was providing Rs 2 million for the expo. “Though the fund is not sufficient, we are all set to organize the expo as we are encouraged by the grand success of the first edition of the expo,” she said, adding that the FWEAN will organize the expo every year to promote women entrepreneurs and their businesses.

The expo will feature handicraft products, agriculture products, organic products, IT services and educational materials, among others. According to the organizers, the expo will have 100 stalls. Similarly, 200 women entrepreneurs from all over the country will participate in the expo.

President Bidhya Devi Bhandari is scheduled to inaugurate the expo. 

The first edition of the expo had recorded transactions of around Rs 50 million said, according to Singh.

The government has established Entrepreneurs Development Fund to promote business of women entrepreneurs. It had allocated Rs 150 million for the fund.
