BUTWAL, Nov 20: A tussle between the Deuba- and Poudel-led factions at the polling station during the course of the election of Rupandehi Province Assembly 3 (1) under the 14th  General Convention of NC on Friday left five party members injured.

According to Matrika Yadav, NC’s regional president, members of the Deuba-led faction started a scuffle leaving five injured after knowing that the poll results would not be in their favor.

Sailesh Panta, a candidate for the post of secretary of the House of Representatives constituency number 3, was critically injured in the scuffle. He is currently being treated at Lumbini Provincial Hospital in Butwal. Panta has suffered a broken nose, doctors say. Likewise, four of the injured are being treated at Bhairahawa, according to police.

According to Parun Prasad Shrestha, a candidate for the post of president of Province 3 (1), some people with their faces covered by black cloths entered the polling station and started assaulting the party members. He also accused the Deuba-led faction of carrying out the attack and said that they had also shut the generators of the building after being certain of losing the polls.

While Parun Prasad Shrestha is the candidate for the post of president of provincial assembly 3 (1) from the Poudel faction, Surendrajung Thapa is the candidate from the Deuba faction.

According to eyewitnesses, party leaders and members from the Deuba faction had attacked other party members at 2AM citing the lead by Shrestha in the polls. They claim that the generator was shut off to tamper or manipulate the elections.
