BHAIRAHAWA, Feb 7: A scorned lover killed his beloved in Butwal after she rejected his marriage proposal.

Sunil Koirala of Dhading on Sunday hurled acid at Tulasa Sapkota of Nawalparasi, who later succumbed to her injuries.

The incident took place late night at a hotel in Butwal. The critically injured victim was initially admitted to Lumbini Zonal Hospital for treatment. Later, she was referred to Bhairahawa Medical College and then to a well equipped hospital in Katmandu. 

According to DSP Mukunda Marasini of Area Police Office, Butwal, the victim was about to be taken to Kathmandu for further treatment but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries on Monday. 

According to the doctors involved in her treatment, various parts of her body including her head were critically burned by acid. The accused of the horrifying incident was arrested on the spot by police.

Sunil and Tulasa had booked a room in Meridian Hotel of Butwal at around 4 pm on Sunday. They had booked the room as husband and wife. As stated by the police, the deceased had even brought her aunt, Mina Kharel, along with her but she was staying in a separate room. It was found that Tulasa was a bit uncomfortable to meet Sunil alone so she had asked her aunt to accompany her.

Staff of the hotel claimed that they didn't hear them fighting although he was drinking till late night. But they rushed to the room when they heard the girl screaming at around midnight. The manager of the hotel informed that they immediately informed the police after they heard the girl crying and noticed the guy trying to escape the scene. 

“When we reached the room, it looked foggy due to the gas of the acid and it was hard for us to get in,” said Inspector Bhim Lal Bhattarai. “We saw the girl lying unconscious on the floor,” he added. 

According to him, all of her hair had been burned due to the acid by the time they reached the incident site. Police even confiscated a bottle of bear in which the acid was kept.  As per the preliminary investigation of the police, the incident did not happen spontaneously but was done intentionally by the culprit in a well-planned manner.  

The accused has accepted his crime. He said that he was really disappointed when the girl said that she loves him but was not ready to marry him. He even suspected that she was involved with another guy and that instigated him to take this action as a revenge.

Police informed that they are still investigating the case to find out more details. After the post mortem at Bhim Hospital, the body of the deceased was handed over to her family members for cremation. 

Mother of the deceased has filed an FIR in at the Area Police Office, Butwal seeking strict punishment for the culprit. Police investigation has found that Sunil and Tulasa had met each other three years ago during foreign employment and they had returned back after working together for a few years.
