Schools to be opened for five days for COVID-19 vaccination in Sarlahi

SARLAHI, Jan 31: Students in Sarlahi will be vaccinated against COVID-19 from today. The schools will be open from today till February 4 to administer the second dose of COVID-19 vaccines to the students in the age group of 12 to 17 years.

A meeting of the District COVID-19 Crisis Management Committee (DCCMC) has decided to open schools for five days to give the second dose of Mordana vaccine to the students, said Chief District Officer (CDO) Thaneshwor Gautam. According to him, the schools will be closed for education till mid-February.

More than 100,000 students in the district have been given the first dose of Moderna vaccine. Chief of the District Public Health Office, Dr Nawal Kishor Jha said that people from all the municipalities will be vaccinated.

According to CDO Gautam, the meeting of the DCCMC also decided not to conduct public meetings, processions, gatherings and other programs that would draw crowds until some other arrangement is made and has asked the schools to stop physical classes as some private schools are still running physical classes.

There are 88,009 students in the age group of 12 to 17 in the community schools of the district, said Sunil Kushwaha, acting head of the Education Development and Coordination Unit, Sarlahi. According to him, a total of 675 schools including community, institutional, religious and other schools of the district have filled forms for vaccination of their students and they will be vaccinated accordingly.
