RAMECHHAP, April 26: The school building of Rudrascheswar High School of Manthali Municipality-7 in Ramechhap district turned into rubble after the devastating earthquake of 2015. On Wednesday, the school shifted its classes from makeshift tents to a concrete building. The joy among the students knew no bounds after getting a well-facilitated school building and classrooms.  

“I had not even imagined that we would get school building this soon,” said Manisha Paudel, one of the students of the school who recently sat for Secondary Education Examination (SEE). “This has made us very happy. Everyone is happy for having a well-facilitated school building in our village.”

The students went through lots of hardship to study after the quake. They were forced to stay inside makeshift tents while recurring problem dust made it unbearable for them to study.

“We had to study despite lots of hardship in lack of school building. The new school building is such a great respite from bamboo-made makeshift tent,” said Tej Bahadur Mangrati, a ninth grader of the school. 

The school building has been constructed with financial assistance from the Asian Development Bank and support from National Reconstruction Authority and Central Project Implementation Unit (education). The total cost for the construction has been around Rs 90.7 million, informed Hemanta Budhathoki, chief of Project Implementation Unit of Ramechhap.

The earthquake completely ravaged 1,935 classrooms of 419 community schools while it caused partial damage to 1,410 classrooms. Non-governmental organizations had taken responsibility to reconstruct 76 school buildings, out of which they reconstructed 63 so far. Likewise, the 65 school buildings out of the total 113 have been repaired by the District Education Office.
