SC scraps writs demanding early appointment of CJ

KATHMANDU, June 7: Supreme Court has scrapped two different writs filed demanding the early appointment of Chief Justice.

A single bench of Justice Cholendra Shamsher JBR issued an order to scrap both writs following the hearing on Thursday, without issuing show cause notice to the government. The petitioners in their petition had requested SC to issue the show cause notice to the government to furnish reasons for delay of appointment of Chief Justice.

Lawyer duo Santosh Bhandari and Laxmi Prasad Pokharel had filed two different writs demanding the early appointment of Chief Justice, in which the petitioner had named the members of Constitutional Council and the stakeholders involved in the appointment procedure.

Deepak Raj Joshee is working as acting Chief Justice following the step down of Gopal Parajuli from the post.
