Soft copy also mandatory

KATHMANDU, July 30:
Service seekers at the Supreme Court (SC) must submit all writ petitions and applications to the apex court typed in Unicode from August 17.

According to SC Spokesman Shrikant Poudel, service seekers should also submit a soft copy of their writ petitions and applications. [break]

Asked about the implications of the move, he said it will help deliver services more quickly and promptly. “We can take notes regarding applications and writ petitions more easily, which will save time,” stated Poudel, adding, “We were unable to take notes in the absence of full documents but now the SC can save the synopsis of writ petitions and applications from the soft copy.”

He also said that the latest move will be supportive for writing down verdicts handed down by the apex court as there will a soft copy of writ petitions and applications available at the court.

Though the apex court had issued a notice on July 22 that the new practice would come into force from Tuesday, the court has extended the deadline, citing requests from stakeholders.

“We also need some time for internal homework to go for Unicode and the stakeholders likewise asked to extend the deadline,” Poudel stated.
