KATHMANDU, June 2: The Supreme Court (SC) has issued a show cause order to the petitioners demanding the suspension of Rastriya Swatantra Party Chairman Rabi Lamichhane from the post of deputy prime minister and home minister. A single bench of justice Til Prasad Shrestha on Sunday called both the parties for discussion before issuing an interim order.
Advocate Anupam Bhattarai had registered the writ petition against Lamichhane. The bench has scheduled the next hearing on June 10, 2024.
Writ petition filed against Rabi Lamichhane
The petition demands Lamichhane's suspension due to his alleged involvement in a cooperative fraud case.
The petitioner argues that Lamichhane's continuation in office could hinder the investigation into the cooperative fraud allegations.
A writ petition demanding the removal of the Home Minister Lamichhane from his position and the annulment of the letter issued by the Office of the Attorney General had previously been dismissed by Supreme Court Registrar Bimal Paudel. However, in response to a petition filed against this dismissal, the bench of Supreme Court Justice Tek Prasad Dhungana ordered the registration of the writ petition last Wednesday.
