KATHMANDU, Oct 6: “You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.”

Satya Raj Acharya and Swaroop Raj Acharya exemplified these immortal words from author Khalil Gibran at a musical show titled ‘Bhakta Raj Acharya Sumadhur Saanjh’. The show was recently held at Patan Museum to celebrate their father Bajhan Siromani Bhakta Raj Acharya’s 75th birthday.

The legendary singer/composer, who was seated in the front row, welcomed his eldest son on stage with ecstatic clapping. Satya Raj opened the show with his father’s popular song ‘Jahaan Chan Buddha ka Ankha’. The synergy of Acharya’s timeless classics and the atmosphere of the Patan Museum that boasts the medieval architecture of Malla era calmed the audience.

In the three decades from 1960s to 1980s, Bhakta Raj Acharya had roughly recorded 450 songs. His sons performed 16 of his popular hits including ‘Mutu Jalirahecha’, ‘Jati Chot Dinchau’ and ‘Hazaar Sapanaharu’ in the show. As the evening progressed, the sibling duo’s polished rendition of Bhakta Raj Acharya’s songs was enjoyed the most by their father. He was seen nodding his head, immersed in the flow of the music.

“We’ve performed hundreds of times in our 23 year old musical career but today’s show will always remain fresh in our memories,” Satya Raj Acharya wrote on Facebook. “We are all thankful to those who could make it to the event.”
