SAPTARI, July 11: The former and current football players on Saturday protested the election of Saptari District Football Association (DFA) held by Devendra Basnet group three days ago. The players staged a rally, demanding an inquiry into alleged financial irregularities committed by Basnet. They also asked ANFA to recognize the election.

Former international player Jeevan Shrestha accused Basnet of holding the election secretly without informing the district working committee and active football clubs, even though an ANFA representative attended the convention.

District Sports Development Committee treasurer Shivakumar Shah said they will go to court if All Nepal Football Association recognized the election, which elected Basnet as the president of the Saptari DFA.

Meanwhile, two members of the working committee led by Basnet have resigned from the post accusing Basnet of holding the elections without prior information and including them in the committee without their permission.
