DHANGADHI, Jan 12: CMG Sankata has secured quarter-final place in the ongoing International Far-western Khaptad Gold Cup after defeating Gorkha Boys Rupandehi 2-0 in a match played in Dhangadhi Stadium on Friday.
Sankata edged the competitive first half after Rabi Silwal scored a goal in the first minute of injury time before the break. Sankata’s goalkeeper Raj Babu was pick-of-the-players in the first half after neutralizing many attacks from the Gorkha Boys.
With second goal of the match, Maxwell solidified the lead and eventually won the match in the 83rd minute. Fofana Ibrahim registered the assist for the second goal of the match.
The winning team head coach Salyan Khadgi was disappointed with the playing conditions but was satisfied for the win Sankata secured in the match. “Players were not able to play their natural game due to the poor condition of the ground but I am happy by the result,” said Khadgi. Gorkha Boys head coach Daya Ram Shrestha expressed his disappointment for not being able to utilize the opportunities its players got in the match. “We couldn’t convert all the chances we got in the match which cost us the game,” said Shrestha.
