CHITWAN, Oct 21: Sankata Club has advanced to the quarterfinals of the ongoing 12th Tuborg Bikash Running Shield registering a 4-2 win over United Kurseong Club of India on Friday.
In the match held at Campachaur, Narayangadh, Biswa Adhikari and Nirajan Khadka netted two goals each for Sankata while Sujan Gurung netted both goals for United Kurseong.
Sankata took the lead in the 13th minute with Biswa Adhikari's goal while Nirajan Khadka extended the lead 2-0 in the 25th minute. The Indian side was limited to 10 players in the 41st minute when the referee gave marching order to United Kurseong's Prashant Gurung for a foul against a Sankata player.
Nirajan netted his personal second goal of the match making the score 3-0 for Sankata and Biswa's scored another goal in 79th minute to extend the lead by 4-0.
United Kurseong, which was under pressure after getting limited to the 10 players, displayed attacking football in the last 10 minutes. As a result, Sujan Gurung pulled back a goal in the 84th minute for the Indian club to make the score line 4-1. United Kurseong got another chance to cut the deficit as the referee awarded penalty in the 89th minute and Sujan made no mistakes to make it 4-2.
Sankata's Nirajan was declared the man-of-the-match and was handed Rs 10,000. Now, Sankata will face Jhapa-XI in the last eight of the tournament on October 26.
Altogether 15 teams including four from India are participating in the tournament that will conclude on October 30.
