BIRGUNJ, April 27: CMG Club Sankata has entered the final of ongoing Bishal Memorial Gold Cup Football Tournament registering 3-0 victory over Nepal Police Club on Wednesday. Raj Poudel scored brace while African recruit Martins added another to help Kathmandu-based outfit book its place in the final overcoming departmental side in the semifinal clash.

Now Sankata will face the winner between Tribhuvan Army Club and Nawa Jana Jagriti Club, Simara. The second semifinal clash between departmental team and Nawa Jana Jagriti will be played on Thursday.

In the match played at Narayani stadium, Birgunj, Sankata took a lead with Martin’s goal in the 17th minute. Police which was trailed down by one goal came under more pressure after its defender Buddha Lama was given marching order by referee showing red card in 29th minute for making foul on Raj Poudel. Sankata extended its lead with Raj’s goal in the 43rd minute and scored his personal second goal four minutes later.

After sealing the victory, Sankata’s head coach Salyan Khadgi said that his players played confidently against the strong team Police. “This season we are doing pretty well winning couple of titles. Players are enjoying good form with good confidence level. Today as well they played in same rhythm, combination between defense, midfield and attack was superb,” said head coach Khadgi.

Meanwhile, Police’s head coach Kumar Katwal said that his players failed to play up to their mark. “Our players couldn’t play up to their potential and the combination between them was poor. Losing a player in the first half also didn’t help us which eventually affected our game plan,” said head coach Katwal.
