Sankata in Bharatpur semis after tie-breaker win

CHITWAN, May 14: Sankata Football Club defeated Jawalakhel Youth Club in tie-breaker to reach the semifinal of the CMS Bharatpur Gold Cup held at Campus Ground in Narayanghat on Monday. 

Player of the match Amit Tamang, Kuldeep Karki and Ajay Thapa scored in the spot-kicks after the normal time was ended on goal-less draw to send Sankata through to the last-four round. 

Roshan Pahari and foreign player Dombia missed in the penalty kicks as well after failing to beat the Jawalakhel goal-keeper Arun Tamanag in the regular time.

Sankata will face Chitwan XI in the second semifinal on Wednesday. Sankata had entered the gold cup in the quarter-final round after receiving a bye in the fixture. Likewise, Armed Police Force (APF) Club will clash against Birgunj United in the first semifinal match on Tuesday.

In the other match of the day, Jhapa XI defeated Chyasal Youth Club 2-1 in the postponed match from Sunday in the same venue. 

Rain, storm and bad light interrupted the match between the two teams on Sunday which was rescheduled for Monday. 

The match only saw remaining 21 minutes of the match played on the previous day. Chyasal’s Sushil Rai was adjudged player of the match in a close defeat.
