Samrat Lama arrested in United States on charges of armed bank robbery

KATHMANDU, Oct 8: Samrat Lama, 30, has been arrested in the United States of America on the charge of robbing a bank on Tuesday.

“The Montgomery County Police Department has arrested and charged Samrat Lama for the armed robbery of a Wells Fargo bank located at 607 North Frederick Avenue on Tuesday at approximately 10:02 am,” according to a statement issued by the department.

Meanwhile, police are yet to establish the nationality of Lama.

According to the department, Lama walked into the bank and told an employee he wanted to open a savings account. “In the middle of their interaction, Lama removed a knife from his backpack and pointed it at the employee,” reads the statement, adding that Lama then demanded money from the tellers and proceeded to place the money in a trash bag. Lama also went over to the drive-thru teller and demanded more cash.

“On Tuesday, October 6, at approximately 10:02 am, the Emergency Communications Center (911 Center) received a call from a bank employee who stated that the Wells Fargo bank located at 607 North Frederick Avenue was being robbed. 6th District officers and Gaithersburg police officers arrived at the bank approximately two minutes after receiving the call and located Lama still inside; he was taken into custody,” the statement reads.

Currently, Lama is kept at the Central Processing Unit, and is charged with armed robbery.
