Police nab two for alleged involvement in Gauchan's murder
Basnet who is currently in jail was identified as the kingpin in Gauchan’s murder. Last Tuesday, a team of MPCD arrested three members of Basnet’s gang--Som Tamang aka Lopsang, 40, of Birtamod Municipality-5, Roshan Budhathoki, 26, of Nagarjuna Municipality-4, and Ambar Bahadur Ranamagar of Udayapur for their involvement in Gauchan’s murder and other crimes.
The three arrested had reportedly told the police that Sherchan was involved in delivering weapons and money to Samirman-led gang members as well as hiding criminals at her home. They have also claimed that she was involved in Gauchan’s murder.
Upon learning that Samirman was operating his gang from the prison itself, the police planned to transfer him to Mustang prison. However, following a writ petition from Sherchan accusing the police of trying to kill him in an ‘encounter’, he was brought back to Central Jail in Kathmandu.
Police have also found that Sherchan was involved in illegal money transfer business known as hundi.
