KATHMANDU, Oct 10: Nepal will be playing against India in the third game of the 16th SAFF Championship at 9:45 PM tonight.
Among the five countries that are competing against each other at the tournament, Nepal has already achieved victory against the Maldives and Sri Lanka. Nepal defeated the previous winner Maldives 1-0 on October 1 while Sri Lanka was defeated by 3-2 on October 4.
While Nepal has six points from two matches and is on the top of the table with the only team with cent percent results, India has managed to draw their first two matches against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka respectively and is placed at 4th position with 2 points. Now, both the countries need to win their remaining matches to make it through the final.
“India is a seven-time SAFF Championship winner. They are a tough team for us. However, that does not mean we will not fight. We will do our best,” said Abdullah Al Mutairi, Nepal's Head Coach.
Kiran Kuman Limbu, Captain and the goalkeeper of Nepali team said, “We have already surpassed two steps to reach our goal of winning SAFF Championship and the match against India is another step we have to endure. However, India is a strong team and we are prepared well for the match.”
