BANGKOK, Sept 12: The sixth Technical Meeting of SAARC Senior Officials of Education convened today in Bangkok as part of the Asia-Pacific Meeting on Education (APMED 6). This meeting, marking eight years since the SAARC Framework for Action for Education 2030 was launched, was organized by the SAARC Secretariat with support from UNESCO and UNICEF.
Representatives from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, along with UNESCO and UNICEF officials, participated in the session. Chaired by the Maldives' Minister of State for Higher Education, Ahmed Shafeeu, the meeting assessed the framework's progress and addressed regional educational challenges.

Key outcomes included a focus on integrating climate change adaptation into educational strategies, advocating increased funding, and proposing a regional framework to address the learning crisis. Emphasis was placed on enhancing teacher development, improving educational access, especially for girls, and advancing science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and vocational education.
