UDAYPUR, June 3: Road expansion has brought cheers on the face of locals of rural areas of Udaypur. Traders are coming at their doorsteps to buy bamboo which is found in abundance in the area.

Last year, Madan Magar of Limchungbung Rural Municipality-3 of Udaypur earned Rs 45,000 by selling bamboo. He expects to earn Rs 50,000 this year.

"As most of the villages are now connected with road network, locals are easily finding buyers for their agro and forest products," Parshuram Rai of Limchungbung-4 said.

Another local Khilraj Rai said bamboos worth Rs 1 to 1.5 million are sold from his ward alone.

Road expansion has come as a boon for local farmers. There is no dearth of buyers for their fruits, vegetables and forest products like bamboo. Locals hope that they will able to earn more in the coming days with growing demand in city areas for products grown in villages.

Officials of Limchungbung Rural Municipality say that the local government was committed to help local farmers find markets for their agro and forest products as well as natural resources. "We have brought people-friendly policies and programs as the rural municipality can become prosperous only if local people are happy and prosperous," Major Kumar Rai, chairperson of Limchungbung Rural Municipality, said.
