KATHMANDU, May 12: The Standing Committee meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP)  which was scheduled to be held today has been postponed owing to the sharp rise in coronavirus cases.

The meeting has been put off owing to the growing number of coroanvirus cases. The Standing Committee members were arriving in the capital from all over the country to attend the crucial meeting and they had yet to undergo COVID-19 test.

The meeting was slated for 11 am at the Dhumbarahi-based party headquarters in the capital.

The meeting was expected to discuss some issues including India's encroachment of  Lipulekh, a Nepali territory, and the government's upcoming fiscal year budget.

The SC meeting which was scheduled to be held on Thursday was put off last Wednesday after the party's chairman Oli expressed his unwillingness to convene it after coming to know that a majority of the members would pressurize him to step down from the post of prime minister owing to poor performance of the government.
