KATHMANDU, May 21: The ruling alliance candidate Khel Raj Pandey is set to be elected as Mayor of Butwal Sub-metropolitan City.
While Pandey secured 25,612 votes, his closest rival Baburam Bhattarai of the CPN-UML got 18,659 votes. Pandey is leading Bhattarai by 6,953 votes as vote counting for the remaining 3,600 votes is still underway.
In the post of Deputy Mayor, Sabitri Aryal of CPN-UML is leading against ruling alliance candidate Chin Bahadur Gurung by 5,829 votes. While Aryal has secured 20,604 votes, Gurung has so far received 14,775 votes. The ongoing vote counting is expected to conclude by today itself.
There are a total of 90,065 voters in Butwal Sub-metropolitan City. A total of 62,101 votes were cast during the local elections held on May 13.
