KATHMANDU, May 5: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has decided to withdraw its support to the government.

A joint meeting of the RSP’s central committee and parliamentary party held on Friday took the decision to withdraw the support that it had been providing to the government. “The joint meeting has mandated the RSP to withdraw the support and to stay as an opposition political party,” informed RSP Chairman Rabi Lamichhane, in a press meet.

Following the November 20 election, the RSP joined the Pushpa Kamal Dahal led government on December 25, 2022. On February 5, the RSP called back its ministers from the Cabinet, but continued its support to the government.

After winning two additional seats for the Member of Parliament in the by-election held on April 23, the newly-established political party decided to review its ties with the incumbent government. The RSP has been blaming the government for removing the issue of ending corruption from the common minimum program.
