KATHMANDU, April 18: Claims amounting to more than Rs 45 million have been filed with insurance companies for the damage inflicted on private properties during the violent pro-monarchy protest in Tinkune area of the capital on March 28.
According to the Nepal Insurance Authority (NIA), claims worth a total of 45.96 million have been submitted to 12 different life insurance companies.
According to the NIA, so far, only Rs 3.33 million of the claims has been paid out by four companies. Among them, Shikhar Insurance has paid all the claims submitted to its company. A total of Rs 498,000 in claims was submitted to the insurance company.

Siddhartha Premier Insurance Ltd, Sagarmatha Insurance Company Ltd, and IGI prudential Insurance Limited have also started making claim payments. Siddhartha Premier, which received claims worth Rs 7.67 million, has so far paid out Rs 2.6 million.
Similarly, Sagarmatha Lumbini Insurance, which received claims worth Rs 7.54 million, has paid out Rs 2.02 million, while IGI Prudential has paid out Rs 28,000. IGI Prudential received claims worth Rs 1.73 million.
Apart from these four companies, no other company has made any claim payments. A total of five claims were submitted to the insurance companies due to the chaos. Among these, the highest number of claims was submitted under property insurance.
According to the NIA’s data, a total of 21 claims were submitted under property insurance, with claims amounting to Rs 27.88 million. Similarly, 22 claims were submitted under motor insurance, with claims totaling Rs 10 million.
Based on the amount, the highest claims were submitted to National Insurance Company which received claims worth Rs 12.7 million.
