Rs 131.6m Indian aid for embankments

KATHMANDU, July 14: On behalf of the Government of India, Alok K Sinha, the deputy chief of mission, handed over a check of Rs 131.6 million to Umakant Jha, the secretary at the Ministry of Irrigation, for the construction of embankment along Lalbakeya and Bagmati rivers on Tuesday.



This assistance is being extended by India in accordance with the decision of the Nepal-India Sub-Committee on Embankment Construction and the Joint Committee on Inundation and Flood Management, the Indian embassy said in a press release.



India has been providing assistance to Nepal for strengthening and extension of embankments along Kamala, Lalbakeya and Bagmati rivers. With the present assistance, the total Indian grant now stands at Rs 449.10 million.



India has also committed assistance of Rs 109.9 million for flood control work along Trijuga, Lakhandehi, Sunsari and Kankai rivers, the press release added.
