KATHMANDU, Jan 5: The Rasuwagadhi border point linking Nepal with China has resumed full operations, triggering a sharp revival in cross-border trade.

Trade activity picked up swiftly. On Saturday alone, 18 electric vehicles entered Nepal, while 39 containers carrying goods such as apples, ready-made garments, garlic, and vehicle spare parts also crossed into the country.

According to the customs office, a total of 96 containers have entered Nepal over the past four days. In just two days, customs revenue collection exceeded Rs 98.7 million.

The key trade corridor, which had remained closed following devastating floods on July 8 last year, was reopened from the first day of the New Year 2026.

The floods had swept away the Friendship Bridge. Later the the Chinese side constructed a Bailey bridge at the site to restore connectivity.
