Rockslide crushes house, three children feared dead

KALIKOT, July 31: Three children of the same family in Kalikot were crushed to death after a massive rock fell from a cliff and flattened their house at Kavregaun of Sanni Triveni Rural Municipality-6, their relatives said. The bodies have yet to be recovered from the debris. 

Seven others were injured in the incident. Within seconds, the rockslide reduced the house of Bunde Sarki to rubble killing his two daughters and a son. As told by relatives, thirteen years old Lalita, nine years old Lanka, and five years old Kalpana died in the incident. They said the bodies have yet to be recovered. A team of Nepal Police and Nepal Army have been deployed for rescue.
 
Those injured in the incident have been identified as Bunde Sarki, his wife Belu Sarki, neighbors Sharmila Sarki and four other locals. As informed by Dambar Bahadur Shahi, the chairperson of Triveni rural municipality, the injured have been admitted to the Kalikot District Hospital for treatment. 

Chairperson Shahi further informed that whole dalit settlement in the area is at high risk of rockslides. He stressed the need for shifting the whole settlement to a new place. A proposal has reportedly been submitted to the District Administration Office for shifting the community.
