KHOTANG, Feb 23: The local government of Halesi, Khotang has taken initiatives to develop a rock garden on Kakani Mountain of Halesi, where small rocks are seen spread over like mushrooms. According to Halesi Tuwachung Municipality, a detailed project report is being prepared for the same.

"We are toward the end of finalizing the DPR. Once this is managed as a rock garden, tourists will definitely love to spend time here," said mayor of the municipality, Iwan Rai. "The garden will be far more attractive than what it looks like now," he added.

The surface with such small rocks is spread over 160 ropanis of government land at Halesi Tuwachung Municipality – 7.  Mayor Rai said that the small rocks look like as if they have been fixed to the surface by drilling. "Naturally, it is so beautiful. As if you drilled the surface and then fixed those small rocks," he noted.

Out of the 160 ropanis, the garden will cover only 56 ropanis of land.  The municipality is set to decorate the garden without tampering with its natural beauty and form. "The rocks are artistic naturally. That should remain intact. Developing it into a garden does not mean tampering with its originality," said mayor Rai.

The northern side of the mountain ranges at Kakani is most sought-after for sightseeing.

Mayor Rai stated that the rock garden will add value to the already existing tourist sites at the location. "We are also thinking of creating something near the garden that would reflect the culture and lifestyle of the people here. Tourists will not only have a visual treat, but also get some knowledge about our place and communities," he stated.

According to a local of Halesi, Rewati KC, the making of the rock garden is a welcome move. However, there are no adequate infrastructures to lure tourists to stay in the area for long. "This place has great potential to be developed into a great tourist destination. But we need infrastructures of the same level to make them stay here for weeks," he said.
