ILAM, Feb 18: The road stretch connecting the district headquarters of Illam to Maipokhari is being blacktopped at a rapid pace by the Division Road Office.

After the road stretch is blacktopped, the travelers going to the tourist destinations in the northern parts of the district will feel much relieved. Of the nine-kilometer Biblyate-Maipokhari road stretch, only four-kilometer is blacktopped. Currently, the Division Road Office is blacktopping a two-kilometer stretch of the route.

According to Birendra Kumar Yadav, engineer of Division Road Office, the contract of the project was handed over for Rs 42.6 million. “The construction company will also build a drainage system along the roadway,” he said, adding that the contract was handed over to blacktop three-kilometer of the stretch, but as the company is also widening the road, it will only blacktop a two-kilometer stretch.

The contract of the project was handed to Khanal Construction last December. As per the contract, the construction of the project should be completed by July 9, 2020.

“As the construction is moving at a rapid pace, the project will be completed within the deadline. After the completion of the project, it would be easier for vehicular movement,” an official said, adding that the road has been widened to 10 meters.

“It will be easier for the tourists to reach Maipokhari and Sandakpur after the completion of the project,” Yadav said.
