KATHMANDU, Aug 27: The Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal (RJPN) has been registered with the Election Commission for the upcoming elections of the provincial and federal governments.

The registration comes three days after the party decided to take part in the polls after boycotting the first and second phase of local elections.

RJPN was the second last among the 56 parties to apply to contest for the elections of the provincial and federal governments. The deadline to register the party for the two polls will expire on Sunday.

The EC has announced to hold elections of the federal and provincial governments on November 26.  The party was registered in the presence RJPN leaders including party coordinator Mahatha Thakur.  In a meeting with the EC officials after the registration, RJPN leaders urged the election body to arrange umbrella as election symbol for the party.

RJPN leader Rajendra Mahato said that the party will now contest all the upcoming polls while keeping its struggle for rights of Madhesi people intact.

“We have already institutionalized the agenda of constitution amendment. We can easily revise the statute if the people support our cause. We will ask the people to give us the mandate required for the amendment,” said Mahato.

The party has already started campaign for civic polls in Province 2 and expedited works to finalize candidates and elections manifesto. Elections in Province 2 are slated for September 18.

“The party has started discussion throughout Madhes to pick appropriate candidates for the civic polls. We will also simultaneously start finalizing the candidates for the federal and provincial elections,” said Mahato.
