KATHMANDU, June 6: The Rastriya Janata Party (RJP), Nepal is to vote for Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba in the prime ministerial election. Deuba is the sole candidate for the election of a new prime minister.
The RJP agreed to take part in the election and vote for the NC candidate with the signing of a three-point agreement with NC President Deuba and CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal today which also includes the amendment to the constitution.
RJP Presidium leaders Mahendra Ray Yadav, Sharat Singh Bhandari, Anil Kumar Jha, Raj Kishore Yadav, Sarbendra Nath Shukla and Laxman Lal Karna have signed on the agreement in principle on behalf of the RJP.
Commitments to the enforcement of the three-point agreement reached with the Madhes-centric parties during the formation of the Dahal-led government, formation of the Federal Commission, constitution amendment, withdrawal of cases relating to the Madhes movement, arrangement of treatment of the injured and compensation to the victims and increment of the local- level on the basis of political understanding are the issues incorporated in the agreement.
The third point of the agreement is about the RJP promise to vote in favour of the NC President. There are 24 lawmakers from the RJP.
Likewise, NC President Deuba, CPN (MC) Chair Dahal have signed a three-point agreement with the Federal Socialist Forum (FSF) Nepal headed by Upendra Yadav, seeking commitments in writing from the party to vote for the NC president in the election. Forum has 15 lawmakers. RSS
