RAJBIRAJ, June 14: Cadres of the Rastriya Janata Party (RJP) Nepal that has come to the street demanding an amendment to the constitution before the second-phase local-level election have taken some 55 election officers deputed in the district under control.
The RJP cadres reportedly took them under control from the main gate of the Rajbiraj-based Mahendra Bindeshwori Multiple Campus where the latter reached to attend the training organised for them before the election. The RJP cadres reached the training venue before 10 am and guarded the campus main gate until election officers and assistant officers arrived there for the training.
RJP General Secretary Gajendra Mandal Anurag confirmed that the party captured election and assistant election officers. According to him, they are kept within the campus premises.
The RJP cadres have picketed the training venue. The local administration has said with the reports of RJP move, it has send the Nepal Police and Armed Police Force (APF) personnel to the site so as to avert any untoward incidents.
According to Saptari Police spokesperson and Deputy Superintendent of Police Yadav Raj Upreti, tensions have grown at the site, following the RJP action.
Meanwhile, normal life in the district has remained affected today too, the second day of the Madhes banda announced by the RJP. The party cadres were seen indulging in burning tyres at different parts of the district including the district headquarters Rajbiraj since early morning. Both long and short-route vehicles are off the road while market areas, shops, teaching institutions, factories and industries have remained closed, owing to the shutdown.
Similarly, the agitating leaders and cadres have obstructed the vehicular movement in Bhardaha, Kanchanpur, Rupani, Kadamaha, Kalyanpur and along the Rajbiraj-Bhardaha section of the East-West Highway.
The Saptari local administration has mobilised security force in multiple locations of the district to avert any untoward incident, the DPO Saptari stated. RSS
