KATHMANDU, June 6: Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens, Thamamaya Thapa, has said that the government would take appropriate initiatives to guarantee of rights of sexual minorities.
At an interaction programme on 'Current situation, problems and challenges of sexual minorities' organised by the Ministry here today, Minister Thapa expressed her commitment that the government would become serious to clarify about the fundamental rights of sexual minorities mentioned in the constitution and to remove legal obstacles in this regard.

Similarly, Secretary at the Ministry, Ngaindra Prasad Upadhyay said that the government was ready to implement the rights as the constitution treats all in an equal manner while senior journalist Babita Basnet said that time has come to fulfill the government's commitment as well as constitutional provisions.
Chairperson of Sancharika Samuha Nirmala Sharma said that problems regarding sexual minorities should be brought out from house and society as well as an environment to resolve the problems should be created.
On the occasion, members of sexual minorities stressed that they should not be discriminated rather treated equally like others.
