KATHMANDU, Feb 13: Chairperson of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Thursday said that the things which used to be considered impossible have turned easy and possible only because of the right principle and leadership.

Addressing a condolence meet organized by the NCP in memory of martyrs of various mass movements and Maoist-led People's War, Dahal insisted that the unification between two major political forces, the erstwhile Communist Party of Nepal Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN UML) and Communist Party of Nepal Maoist-Center, was materialized due to right leadership.

"Although the two communist parties had had bitter relations, the wise leadership eventually made the integration between the two possible,"

On the occasion, he also claimed that the federal democratic republic was established as a result of the ten-year armed conflict waged by then CPN Maoist.

He urged the party leaders and cadres to move ahead in the line of scientific socialism through peaceful struggle, development and prosperity by internalizing the people's aspirations.

Chairman Dahal also recalled that they had to undergo several hiccups during the signing of the historic 12-point agreement between the then CPN (Maoist) and seven political parties prior to the popular movement 2006.

Likewise, he also vowed to adopt correct political ideology to steer the country to the positive direction. Dahal said that his party highly values the sacrifices made by the martyrs of People's War and Jhapa revolt. He added that unification of the then UML and Maoist Centre was held on the background of Maoist party's emphasis for coordination among the communists.

Speaking further Dahal stated that the country would have faced a huge disaster if the contemporary leadership had failed to take the right decision on time. "Amid numerous failure stories of peace process throughout the globe, we should consider ourselves more than fortunate that we had successfully transformed the armed conflict into peaceful conclusion," said he adding that peace process succeeded based on the formidable foundation set by 10-year long People's War and Mass Movement II.

Referring to the ongoing activities of outlawed Netra Bikram Chanda 'Biplab'-led group, he also took time to make it clear that imitating the People's War is not possible in the following days as the country has already been marching ahead towards socialism.

Also speaking during the program, the vice-chairperson of the party Bamdev Gautam maintained that the armed conflict was for people's liberation and prosperity. He also stated the fact that then CPN UML had to suffer a heavy loss during the conflict era. "However, we should accept the fact that weakness is a normal phenomenon, and such a great revolution would be no exception," Gautam added.

He claimed that the merging of the two political bigwigs to present CPN has resulted in political stability in the country. According to him, the leadership will succeed in resolving the disputes and addressing every kind of concern within the party.

Top leaders of the party including NCP general secretary Bishnu Poudel, Minister for Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa and Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Gyawali were present at the program. Prime Minister and another Chairperson of the party KP Sharma Oli, however, skipped the event. Earlier, he was scheduled to be the part of the program, according to party sources.
