KATHMANDU, March 17: The Election Commission (EC) on Thursday urged all the stakeholders to abide by the election code of conduct sincerely for conducting the election in a free, fair and credible manner.
The directive from the election body comes as the government has continued to appoint and transfer officials and security officials. Also, the Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered the Tribhuvan University administration to hold Free Students Union elections at Ratnarajya Laxmi Campus, Kathmandu. Earlier, the EC had instructed the university administration not to hold the FSU elections for the time being indicating that the college election could affect the local election environment.
Responding to a writ petition filed by Tapendra Bahadur Shahi, a single bench of Justice Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada issued the interim order Thursday.
Issuing a press statement, EC spokesman Surya Prasad Sharma has reminded the stakeholders of the 19-point instruction issued for the government. "We have enforced the election code of conduct since March 1 asking the stakeholders to abide by it. But that is not being followed fully."
