KATHMANDU, Sept 13: A dog which was swept four kilometers downstream by the swollen Dhobikhola river on Wednesday afternoon was rescued alive by a youth. The hapless dog was paddling in the river with rescuers on motorbikes alongside the Dhobikhola corridor following it in an attempt to save the poor canine from drowning.
The dog which was presumed to have fallen into the river at Kalopul was finally rescued near UN Park, where a concrete structure built to support a bridge obstructed the flow of river. Prabin Thapa, a local of Patan, reached the convenient point to rescue in advance and climbed down the bridge at Buddhanagar to rescue the dog from the raging river.

“We saw the dog at Ratopul and started following it all the way to UN Park,” said Utsav Devkota, who drove Thapa in his scooter during the rescue. The rescuers said the unfriendly structures alongside the river made it difficult to rescue the dog as it got swept away. “It was difficult to rescue the dog because of the unfriendly structures alongside the river,” said Devkota, adding that the unscientific structures pose risk to human life as well.
After taking the dog out of the river, the rescuers tracked down the locality of the dog in Kalopul and reunited it with its puppies.
