KATHMANDU, Dec 31: Labor permit for foreign employment will be made available online starting Friday (January 1, 2021), according to the Department of Foreign Employment.
People until now are required to report to the Kathmandu-based department’s office in Kathmandu regardless of their destination country for employment.
Service seekers have long been complaining that the Department had made it mandatory for the foreign job aspirants to be physically present for the purpose. New arrangements have been made to re-issue labor permits online keeping in view of the complaints received from service seekers.

Officials at the DoI said those who go for foreign employment for the first time must get a two-year work permit. The labor permit has to be renewed again after that period.
Only those who go for foreign employment with a labor permit can get employment in the destination country. Only those who have obtained a work permit will be able to get facilities mentioned by the government in case of death, accidents and illness in the destination country.
The Foreign Employment Board provides Rs 700,000 to those who die in the destination country if the work permit is valid. Similarly, the board also provides financial assistance of up to Rs 700,000 per person to sick and disabled persons.
One has to deposit Rs 1,500 for a two-year labor permit and Rs 2,500 for a labor permit for a period of more than two years. The department has stated that the labor permit should be obtained by scanning eyes or fingerprints to renew the labor permit. Arrangement has been made to fill the form through the website of the department to get the labor permit again.
