Registration begins for Hult Prize 2017/18

Various teams competing for the next edition of Hult Prize 2017/18, a global idea competition that invites applicants from all over the world to solve global problems, have started registering their teams.

The global competition, for which Tribhuvan University and Purbanchal University have already opened their forms, calls for participation of students, studying undergraduate or above. Kathmandu University is to start the registrations for the same from October 19.

According to a press statement released by KU, one can register for the competition in a group of three to four people, with one alumnus but not a faculty member.

Every year, the competition is held with a certain theme where the participants are invited to contribute their ideas and come up with a profitable and sustainable business model to solve a particular problem under a proposed theme. This year’s competition is to be held under the theme 'Harnessing the power of energy to transform the lives of 10 million people'.

Based on the theme, the participants have to develop ideas that might affect the world in the next five years under one of the six dimensions: health, education, connectivity, food, water and mobility.

They participating teams will then receive mentorship and info-sessions to work on their ideas and come up with a substantial business model, and compete at a local competition here.

This year, Gaurab Dahal from Kathmandu University School of Management, Bibek Aryal from School Of Management, Tribhuvan University and Kusumsheela Bhatta of Purbanchal University have been appointed as Campus Directors for the respective universities.

The different winners will then compete in one of the five regionals to be held in Boston, San Francisco, London, Shanghai, or Dubai on March 2018.

The regional winners then after will compete in the finals to be held in the USA on September 2018. The winning team will be awarded with a handsome prize of USD one million as a capital to give shape to their idea and work to solve the problem.

KU was awarded as one of the top seven events held all around the world for which last year’s Campus Director Shreesti Guragain and others were felicitated in a program held in New York in September.
