Red Circle in collaboration with Child Safe Net, Nepal Telecommunications Authority, and International Telecommunications Union and with the support of International Youth Media Summit, Khalti and Oscar International College of Film Studies organized a 10 Days Video Editing Certification Course as a Girls in ICT Day Initiative. International Girls in ICT Day, celebrated on the fourth Thursday of every April, is an initiative backed by all ITU Member States aimed to encourage and empower girls and young women to consider studies and careers in the growing field of ICT, enabling both girls and technology companies to reap the benefits of a greater female participation in the ICT sector. NTA has been assisting ITU to conduct Girls in ICT Day events in Nepal since 2010 and has chosen Red Circle to deliver their purpose in Kathmandu for the second time this year.

The course was held from May 12 to May 21 at Oscar International College of Film Studies, Sukedhara. A total of 16 women aged between 15 and 59 participated in the training and were equipped with the technical knowledge and skills required for video editing, creative multimedia production, visual effects and communicating complex ideas through engaging visual methods with the help of two very proficient instructors — Sanjeev Ratna Shakya, an alumnus of Oscar College, currently working as a producer at Himalaya Roadies and directing films for the Nepali film industry conducted the first five days. He directed the students on the basics of Premiere Pro, sequence settings, tools, video exporting and audio-video transitioning.

Similarly, Animesh Sapkota, also an Oscar alumnus, conducted the final five days where he covered the formats and aspect-ratio of the videos, as well as different forms of shots. The students were given an open platform to show what they’ve learned and were tasked with different assignments during the training. Red Circle intends to keep conducting such events that provide the women of today with the professional skills that can be used in multiple facets of life.
