KATHMANDU, Aug 11: Records of 179 government agencies were destroyed during the Gen Z protests on September 8 and 9 last year, according to the Office of the Auditor General.
Speaking at a meeting of the Public Accounts Committee of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, Auditor General Toyam Raya said audits of the agencies whose records were destroyed could not be conducted.

Deputy Auditor General Deepak Lamichhane said the records could be reconstructed using general vouchers that remain safe. He added that internal audit reports submitted by the agencies could also help establish the details.
Finance Secretary Dr Ghanshyam Upadhyaya said there was no loss of revenue under the ministry and that the systems of the Treasury and the Office of the Comptroller General remained secure during the protests.
Lawmakers, meanwhile, urged that irregularities at offices whose records were destroyed should not be pardoned simply because their records were lost. They called for alternative measures to conduct audits and determine responsibility for any financial irregularities.
