KATHMANDU, Dec 15: Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Bidya Sundar Shakya on Sunday admitted that the reconstruction of cultural heritage sites including Rani Pokhari has not gained momentum due to various reasons.
Addressing a program organized to mark the 25th Metropolitan Day, Shakya said that the rebuilding of earthquake-hit heritage sites has been delayed due to the unwarranted interference of the Department of Archeology. "The reconstruction of Rani Pokhari and Kasthamandap has been delayed by one year due to series of controversies," he said. However, he has been able to deliver on his election promises, he claimed.
During the program, KMC Mayor announced a campaign to make the metropolis a ‘street people free zone’.
Deputy Mayor Hari Prava Khadki, on the occasion, stressed the need of women leadership and a good representation of women at the local bodies to expedite the development works.
